MISSION ESTATE "Reserve" - Cabernet Merlot - Hawke's Bay - New Zealand

This Cabernet Merlot is vibrant in colour and rich in varietal character with well-integrated oak. The Cabernet Franc gives a lifted floral note and sweetness while the Cabernet Sauvignon provides the power and drive in the blend. There are hints of cassis, tobacco and plum on the nose. The palate has great structure with an abundance of fine ripe tannins. The wine is complex, mouth-filling and well-balanced.

Critique Review

“This is luscious and flavorful with lots of blackcurrants and dark chocolate with hazelnut character. Full and layered with velvety tannins that are polished and soft. This can age, but if you want a richer and fuller red from NZ this is for you. Sustainable. Drink or hold. Screw cap.”

Vineyard Info

Central to the success of New Zealand as a world-renowned wine growing region is the temperate maritime climate and the free-draining alluvial soils. The growing season is long, providing perfect conditions for slow ripening and full flavour development. Cool nights and warm days retain fruit acidity which lends a freshness and vibrancy, highly characteristic of New Zealand wine styles.
