Vineyard Info
The roots of the vineyard & family Zöhrer go back to year 1270, during the time of the Babenberger in the history of Austria. Around 1300 Albrecht I (1255-1308) provided twenty of his most loyal followers with farmland, orchards and vineyards in and around Weinzierl (today a district of Krems), creating the feudal lords of Krems/Weinzierl. Our knowledge and tradition have been passed down through the Anton Zöhrer generations. We work consistently on expressing the potential of our big single vineyards, which belong to the most important area of the Kremstal. The Zöhrer winery is located in Sandgrube in Krems and proudly wears the title of house number n#1.
The famous vineyard Sandgrube is on of the most well-known in Austria and basically counts to worlds best for the grape variety: Grüner Veltliner. Its heavy and huge loess terraces are the basis for our wines from these terroirs. Not only the significance of this vineyard but also the head quarter of the Zoehrer Estate – located among the famous vineyard Sandgrube – were reason enough to dedicate an own collection to this vineyard and its plants.
