Vineyard Info
Penley Estate was born from the marriage of two pioneering wine families, the Penfold's and the Tolley's, two pioneering South Australian wine families. Today the estate is owned by sisters Ang & Bec Tolley, and like their ancestors they are strong, resilient and determined women. Their history is a rich mix of endeavour, passion and vision with a touch of scandal and madness thrown in for good measure.
As one of Australia's most unique terroirs, Coonawarra is characterised by a signature concentrated soil called Terra Rossa ("red earth") and a cooler climate perfect for Cabernet to age slowly until optimum ripeness. The vineyard is structured with predominantly N - S rows on loam soils.
