LE SERRE NUOVE DELL'ORNELLAIA 2021- Bolgheri DOC Rosso - Tuscany, Italy
LE SERRE NUOVE DELL'ORNELLAIA - Bolgheri DOC Rosso - Tuscany, Italy
The product of a vintage that has proven to be high calibre and deeply satisfying, Le Serre Nuove dell’Ornellaia 2021 allows the tannin qualities and balanced concentration to shine through. The wine displays a bright ruby red with the usual purple highlights in the glass. Refreshing on the nose with pink pepper and cypress berries aromas, which are reminiscent of the Mediterranean shrub. On tasting, the wine is elegant with a lovely acidity and an enduring and savoury finish, which entices further enjoyment.

Critique Review

“A firm and linear red with currant, berry, chocolate and cedar character. It’s medium- to full-bodied. Fine tannins that run the length of the wine. It’s tight and focused. Energetic and bright. 50% merlot and 28% cabernet sauvignon and the rest split equally between petit verdot and cabernet franc. Better after 2026”
94 pts, James Suckling
“The 2021 Bolgheri Rosso Le Serre Nuove dell'Ornellaia is a nicely extracted and rich blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. This vintage is very generous, even opulent, with dark fruit that is framed by exotic spice, baking chocolate and softly toasted tones from French oak. The wine ends on a creamy note with vanilla and cinnamon. The oak needs a few more years to integrate.”

Vineyard Info
Having the sea so close has ensured the presence of clayey and sandy marls, while the erosion of the hills above the Estate has provided schists and shales, and iron-rich minerals. The heart of the Estate which descends from the Masseto vineyard towards the plains of Ornellaia along the Via Bolgherese, comprises two distinct geological zones: rounded pebbles with sandy mud and sand on higher ground; a sandy-clayey matrix with pebbles in the plain with bright red sands (the Sabbie della Val di Gori), thicker sand and fine gravels at the bottom of the terrain.
